The Comfort Maple
The Oldest Maple Tree in Canada, the Comfort Maple. Located at 1732 Metler Road in Pelham this tree is reportedly over 500 years old.
The tree is named after the Comfort family, who purchased the land on which it sits in 1816. The tree and the land around it was donated to the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority on April 30, 1961 by Miss Edna Eleanor Comfort.
The tree is 24.5 metres (80 ft) tall with a crown that is 125 feet (38 m) in circumference with the trunk itself measured at 6 metres (20 ft) in circumference at the base. The tree has been repaired over the years with bricks and concrete due to age and lightning strikes.
The Conservation Area is surrounded by farm land, occupies about half an acre and has a small parking lot with two sitting areas.
